A Rolling Home for Our Future Flock

There’s a new project underway at Sweet Earth Orchard—construction has started on our mobile chicken coop, the future home of about two dozen happy hens arriving this summer.

Our farm is always in motion, and now our chickens will be too. With the coop on wheels, we’ll be able to trailer it around the orchard, giving the flock fresh ground to forage while letting them do what chickens do best—scratch, peck, and explore.

Chickens are some of the hardest-working partners in a permaculture system. They’ll feast on grubs, crickets, and weed seeds, helping us care for the land without chemicals. As they move, they’ll fertilize the soil, turning bugs and weeds into rich nutrients for our trees and gardens. And of course, they’ll thank us with something delicious in return: fresh, golden-yolked eggs.

By midsummer, we’ll welcome around 24 chickens into their new rolling home. We can already picture the sound of clucking mixing with the rustle of orchard leaves, baskets filling with warm eggs, and kids chasing feathers in the grass.

This mobile coop is more than just a structure—it’s another step in weaving the cycles of animals, plants, and people into a thriving, sustainable whole.
