Winter Warmth: Life Inside the Greenhouse

Colorado winters can be sharp and biting, and today the thermometer outside read –10°F. But step inside our greenhouse, and you’d never guess it was so cold. In here, it’s holding steady at a relatively balmy 41°F—still brisk, but a world of difference from the frozen orchard beyond the glass.

The plants inside tell the story best. Some are cozy and thriving in the mild warmth, while others shiver a little at the chill. It’s a reminder that every species has its sweet spot, and we’re still learning how to balance the greenhouse rhythms to keep them all happy.

Then the sun comes out, and the transformation is incredible. By noon, the temperature can soar into the 80s, turning the space into a pocket of summer in the middle of winter. The contrast feels almost magical—icy air just beyond the glass, and lush, warm growth under its shelter.

At Sweet Earth Orchard, these experiments are part of the journey. The greenhouse isn’t just about extending the growing season; it’s about exploring how life adapts, thrives, and surprises us in the most unlikely conditions. Even in the depths of winter, there’s a pulse of green, reminding us that growth never truly stops.
