Growing Under Glass: Our Greenhouse Journey

Step inside our greenhouse right now and you’ll find young trees settling happily into their new home. They’re stretching their roots into the soil and soaking up the warm, humid, and protected environment that the greenhouse provides—a little oasis within the orchard.

This greenhouse is more than just shelter; it’s a teacher. We’re still learning how the passive solar gain and ground cooling loop work together. A couple of weeks ago, daytime highs inside were peaking above 100 degrees—plenty warm, even for the hardiest plants. With the shift in weather, things have evened out, and now the highs are hanging in the 90s, a much friendlier range for growth.

The next chapter in this project is planting vegetables to see what we can grow out-of-season, through the winter. Imagine fresh greens in January or tomatoes when snow is on the ground. The greenhouse is opening new possibilities, not just for us as farmers, but for how this land can nourish our community year-round.

At Sweet Earth Orchard, every experiment is a step toward deeper connection—with the earth, with our food, and with the cycles of growth that sustain us. The greenhouse is a reminder that with care, curiosity, and patience, life keeps finding ways to thrive.
